My name is Wojciech Grycz and I am EVS volunteer in place called SFO "Spiren" in Ringkøbing (Denmark). SFO is a place where kids can come before and after classes and wait for their parents to pick them up or just go home by themselves when they feel the need to. I have chosen this project because I love to work with kids and I am very curious about danish language and scandinavian culture. My main responsibilites are to provide leisure time for the kids, play with them, watch them outside, arrange creative workshops and simply - be there for them. My work gives me a lot of satisfaction and joy. It is totally amazing feeling to come to work at 8 o'clock in the morning, open the door and hear a group of kids saying "Hey Wojciek!" :) Of course sometimes there are situations where an "adult-intervetion" is totally necessary but it's a part of this kind of job. We have about 250 kids from 20 different nationalities. Of course we mainly have Danish kids but there are also kids coming from Greenland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Iraq, Irleand, USA, Thailand, Korea and Spain. This intercultural mix gives me the opportunity to learn not only about different cultures but to observe how kids are brought up in different countries and what they are taught by paretns.
